Heartshare is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit that serves children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism, through a broad range of services such as education, life skills and vocational training, residential support, case management, recreation, family services, and health care. Its affiliated programs—The Heartshare School, Heartshare Wellness, and Heartshare St. Vincent’s Services—focus on autism education and therapies, essential health services for developmental disabilities, and crisis assistance for families affected by poverty, respectively. Founded in 1914, Heartshare operates more than 100 program sites across Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island and extends its reach to 61 of New York’s 62 counties through energy grants to low-income families.
