The Day School serves students aged 5 to 22 and draws from more than 60 public school districts across the Chicagoland area; it was founded in 1996.

In May 2012, Giant Steps launched the Canopy Adult Services Program in Sugar Grove to serve adults 18 and older with autism, providing therapy, opportunities for community inclusion, and life skills training. Together, the Day School and Canopy programs address needs across the autism spectrum and across ages, reflecting a lifespan approach to education and support in a setting designed to be organized and supportive.
