Geneanet, founded in 1996 and based in Paris, Île-de-France, operates as an international platform for collaborative genealogy within the technology and internet sector. The service enables secure sharing of family trees, photographs, and archival records, and is supported by a strong search capability, indexing alerts, forums, and a personal mailbox. It is accessible in multiple languages, and data sharing is free while paid memberships unlock advanced features and additional records; the platform counts around five million members and more than nine billion indexed individuals. In 2025, Geneanet launched the Save our Graves project to capture headstones before they are lost, reflecting an effort to preserve source material for genealogical research.
