FUSE is a national nonprofit based in San Francisco that works to expand the capacity of local governments to serve communities more effectively. It places private-sector executives into city and county agencies to lead projects that improve public services and accelerate systems change. Since 2012, FUSE has completed more than 400 projects across 58 governments in 26 states, affecting a population equivalent to about one in ten Americans. The organization operates through an executive fellowship model: for each opportunity, it conducts a full search to identify top leaders, who then work full-time with government teams for at least a year to pursue defined goals. Projects address housing, economic mobility, climate resilience, public safety, infrastructure, technology, and related areas, with a focus on lasting on-the-ground change and the dissemination of learnings to other communities.

Its work targets local governments and community partners nationwide, helping them tackle high-priority needs through embedded leadership. Positioned in the civic and social sector, FUSE acts as a conduit for private-sector expertise to inform public service delivery and systems reform. A recent development showing ongoing activity is the December 2024 partnership with the City of Los Angeles, Bureau of Engineering, to advance a project.
