Fraport Bulgaria is a German-Bulgarian concessionaire responsible for operating Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) airports under a 35-year agreement. It holds a majority stake of 60 percent in the joint venture and oversees the management, development and daily operations of these two 24-hour gateways on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, with a focus on service quality, staff development, equipment upgrades and new technologies. In 2017, Varna and Burgas together served more than 4.9 million passengers and over 37,000 flights, supported by 99 airlines to 181 destinations across Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa. The operation employs more than 630 permanent staff and 1,200 seasonal workers across Varna and Burgas. In March 2025, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD announced long-term concession agreements with Lagardère Travel Retail and Gingers to enhance the commercial and culinary landscape at both airports.
