Food Recovery Network is a national nonprofit that coordinates the recovery of perishable food that would otherwise be wasted and donates it to local hunger-relief organizations. It brings together college students, dining providers, food suppliers, and local businesses to reduce food waste and address hunger. Founded in 2011 at the University of Maryland, FRN operates on nearly 200 campuses across 46 states and Washington, D.C., and has recovered and donated more than 6.9 million pounds of food to date, equivalent to about 5.7 million meals.
