Mesirow Financial Consulting, LLC (MFC) announced that Thomas Borgers, former senior investigator of the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission (FCIC) and contributor to The Financial Crisis Inquiry Report, has joined the firm as a managing director. Additionally, he will focus on mortgage- and asset-backed securities and other exotic structured derivatives, corporate governance and financial institution operations and controls. In his role as the senior investigator for the FCIC, Borgers initiated investigative and financial reviews to identify and report the causes of the financial crisis to the President and to Congress. He worked with industry leaders at assisting the FCIC in understanding and completing its many statutory tasks. He guided FCIC staff on major financial and mortgage-related analyses and investigations, and played a key role in investigating Wall Street banks, credit rating agencies, regulators, brokers, mortgage entities, due diligence, underwriters and issuers of RMBS, insurance companies and government-sponsored enterprises. In 2010, Borgers received the Washington, D.C. ACFE Examiner of the Year Award for his work at the Commission, as well as the Special Act of Service Award by the Commission Borgers has over 30 years of experience working within the financial and mortgage industries, the Federal Government and with various consulting firms. He has been a senior consultant to major law firms, financial and banking institutions and Fortune 1000 companies.
