FDLE is a state-level public safety agency based in Tallahassee, with seven regional operations centers across Florida to extend its reach. Its core mission is to promote public safety and strengthen domestic security by partnering with local, state, and federal criminal justice agencies to prevent, investigate, and solve crimes while safeguarding residents and visitors. The department serves both Florida’s citizens and visitors by coordinating across jurisdictions to meet criminal justice needs and respond to security challenges. FDLE was established in 1967, and its governance rests with the Governor and Florida Cabinet, with the Commissioner appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate. Guided by values of service, integrity, respect and quality, the agency also holds accreditation from multiple national and state bodies, reflecting adherence to established professional standards. Since the September 11, 2001 attacks, FDLE has played a leading role in the state's domestic security efforts by working with federal, state, and local officials to prepare for, prevent, respond to, and recover from acts of terrorism.
