ESF is a non-governmental, non-profit association based in Strasbourg, Grand Est, with more than 50 years of involvement in European science management. It serves as a bridge for researchers and implements solutions to strengthen the European scientific landscape. Its activities span assessing research quality and grant proposals, supporting and hosting scientific structures and networks, managing research funding programmes, and coordinating European projects and their communication, all supported by an international, multilingual team. Its customers include researchers, scientific structures and networks across Europe and beyond, addressing governance, evaluation, funding management, and project coordination needs. In January 2025, ESF launched ALMASI (Aligning and Mutualising Nonprofit Open Access Publishing Services Internationally), a Horizon Europe funded project that ESF will coordinate.
