East Harlem Tutorial Program is a New York City–based education organization with roots dating to 1958 when a volunteer led a reading group in a community member's living room. It has evolved into a multi-site program that serves more than 1,600 Pre-K through college students this year through after-school and summer programs for traditional public school students, the East Harlem Scholars Academies network of public charter schools, the College Scholars program, and the East Harlem Teaching Residency. The organization operates across multiple sites to expand access to rigorous educational opportunities for East Harlem students. Its work is anchored in a commitment to racial equity, with anti-racism work embedded in professional development, curriculum and processes to support students' academic growth, character development and emotional well-being. It also pursues ambitious goals such as serving a substantial share of East Harlem students by 2025, including the College Scholars program launched in 2012 to help students navigate higher education.
