Datecs Ltd., based in Sofia, Sofia-region, is a computer hardware manufacturer founded in 1990 by researchers from the Institute of Applied Cybernetics at the Bulgarian Academy of Science. The company introduced the first Cyrillic fonts for PostScript in 1990, followed by a laser printer with built-in Cyrillic fonts in 1991 and a Windows-based program for complete Cyrillic support in 1992. In 1994, Datecs began collaborating with Samsung to develop retail systems and adapt electronic cash registers for networking, culminating in its MP500 cash register in 1996 and the MP500T in 1997, with the brand becoming widespread in 11 countries and widely recognized in Central and Eastern Europe for fiscal-memory devices. The company broadened its product range to include electronic scales, printers, displays, and related POS hardware, and has conducted geographic information systems work and map digitization projects with international partners. In February 2025, Datecs announced a partnership with Bluefin Inc. to bring ShieldConex Orchestration to its Android-based payment devices, signaling continued collaboration to support secure payments.
