Headquartered in Altenholz near Kiel, Schleswig-Holstein, the organization operates as a public-law institution with a cross-regional presence, supported by six German states and a municipal IT association. Its client base includes the state administrations of Hamburg, Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein and Saxony-Anhalt, as well as the tax administrations of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Lower Saxony, and numerous municipal authorities in Schleswig-Holstein. A notable recent development is Hamburg's partnership with Dataport to create the GovTech Campus Hansestadt Hamburg, aimed at developing new solutions for digitizing administrative processes and creating a learning platform.
