Children’s Healing Art Project (CHAP) is a nonprofit that brings the healing power of art to children and families facing medical and mental health challenges. CHAP's mobile team of teaching artists partners with hospitals, community organizations, and schools throughout the Portland area. CHAP’s teaching artists lead nearly fifty hours of in-hospital art adventures per week, featuring a variety of supplies and projects designed to spark each child’s imagination. Our partner hospitals include OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital, OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Shriner's Hospital for Children, and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. CHAP’s Art Club program provides engaging monthly art experiences for children with medical challenges outside of the hospital, allowing them to express themselves through creativity. For those who live outside the Portland area, free "CHAP in a Box" deliveries enable families to experience the healing power of art in the comfort of their own homes. In 2022, CHAP provided 8,745 healing art experiences throughout the Portland area. A highly talented Board of Directors governs CHAP, ensuring that every activity is in line with CHAP's mission. Skilled community members from the business sector (Nike, The Standard Insurance Company, (w)here Real Estate), social services, consulting, as well as representation from families who have benefited from CHAP's services make up the growing Board. As a nonprofit, CHAP relies on hundreds of individual and corporate volunteers to facilitate a variety of programs and services. Volunteers give over 8,000 valuable hours of support annually.
