The Center for Great Apes is a private, non-profit sanctuary based in Wauchula, Florida, dedicated to the lifelong care of orangutans and chimpanzees retired from the entertainment industry, research, or no longer kept as pets. The sanctuary sits on more than 120 acres in south central Florida, featuring a tropical forest-like setting with a diverse canopy and proximity to the Peace River, surrounded by citrus groves. It operates as a 501(c)(3) organization, with contributions that are tax-deductible, and aims to provide care with dignity in a safe, healthy, and enriching environment for lifetime care. The center serves great apes in need and relies on charitable contributions to sustain lifetime care for the apes. During Miami Art Week 2024, artist Evan Bobo donated his interactive sculpture EARTHBALLS to the Center for Great Apes.
