California Botanic Garden is a private nonprofit institution focused on California native plants and is regarded as the most extensive garden devoted to this regional flora. Located on 86 acres in Claremont, the garden serves as an educational and research hub, hosting the Botany Department of Claremont Graduate University and offering programs and events year-round. It operates Grow Native Nursery, providing a curated selection of California natives for sale to the public. Founded in 1927 by Susanna Bixby Bryant, the garden has long pursued conservation, education, and public access to native plant resources.
Its audience includes visitors, students, educators, and plant enthusiasts who seek knowledge about native flora and practical guidance for cultivation and habitat restoration. Recent collaborations, including a partnership with the Pomona Valley Audubon Society to host bird-focused education and events, highlight its role as a community resource in Claremont.
