MISSION STATEMENT: To provide quality, permanent and affordable housing opportunities to meet the needs of lower income or homeless people with disabilities who also have mental illness. VISION STATEMENT: “A compassionate community where all low-income people with mental illness have a permanent and safe home”. CORE VALUES: STABILITY — DIGNITY — HOPE Broward Housing Solutions® (BHS®), is a 501(c)3 non-profit, Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO), that was established in 1993 after a DCF task force identified the critical need of affordable housing services for the low income residents in Broward County struggling with mental illnesses. Since its inception, BHS® remains dedicated to its mission of providing quality housing opportunities to meet the needs of lower income or homeless people with disabilities who also have mental illness. Via our housing programs, BHS® collaborates with mental health service providers within Broward County to maintain case management services. These mental health support services enable our residents to move towards the road of recovery and wellness while residing safely and permanently within our affordable housing programs. The clients we serve, people with mental illness, often live off of meager Social Security benefits that certainly do not cover the cost of safe and affordable housing. For this reason BHS® charges its residents 30% of their gross monthly income as rent, while providing rental subsidies to cover the difference in rent. Through this initiative, BHS® is currently serving over 350 clients within 207 rental units which are scattered throughout Broward County. These residents find themselves living with roommates or their families in beautiful 1, 2, or 3 bedroom homes. These affordable rental units are easily accessible to medical, transportation, shopping, employment opportunities, and mental health services.
