Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS is a nonprofit organization aligned with the American theatre community that raises funds to support health care and social services across the United States. Founded in 1988, it is a leading, industry-based fundraiser and grant-maker focused on AIDS-related causes. By channeling contributions from Broadway, it has directed more than $300 million to programs serving people affected by HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, and other serious illnesses.

The organization is a major supporter of social-service programs at the Entertainment Community Fund (formerly The Actors Fund), including HIV/AIDS initiatives, the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative, and The Friedman Health Center for the Performing Arts. Each year it awards grants to more than 450 AIDS and family-service organizations across all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., providing medications, meals, counseling and emergency assistance. Headquartered in New York City, the organization operates as a mid-sized nonprofit within the Broadway ecosystem.
