The American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra is a small not-for-profit organization based in the United States with a mission to expand public musical knowledge and appreciation. It achieves this by establishing, maintaining, and operating ensembles of young instrumental performers and by organizing performances. The organization relies on donor support and operates under the banner of the American Youth Philharmonic Orchestras, a name adopted after its earlier designation as the Northern Virginia Youth Symphony Association. Its activities are centered on serving the general public as well as young musicians, providing training and performance opportunities in instrumental music. The group has been recognized for its work with under-served students and for connecting music education to broader educational and personal outcomes, as reflected in the 2018 Arts Education Award. In November 2024, Miranda Southwood was named executive director, marking a notable leadership transition.
