American Maritime Officers is the largest union representing U.S. merchant marine officers. Its members serve aboard U.S.-flagged merchant and military sealift vessels, operating across a wide range of ship types and trades, including LNG carriers, offshore wind support vessels, oil and product tankers, containerships, and specialized service ships. The union also represents officers on Military Sealift Command ships, Ready Reserve Force vessels, and a broad spectrum of Great Lakes, harbor, and inland-water fleets.

Based in Washington, D.C., AMO supports its members with a comprehensive training program at the STAR Center, offering LNG cargo and fuel training, a dynamic positioning curriculum accredited by the Nautical Institute, and a full STCW certification pathway. It negotiates collective bargaining agreements and provides employer-paid benefits, including medical, vacation, pension, defined contribution plans, a money purchase pension, and a 401(k) arrangement. A recent development involves AMO's participation in the American School Counselor Association Conference in Long Beach, highlighting industry outreach.
