Based in Alexandria, Virginia, the American Academy of Physician Associates is a mid-sized nonprofit that serves as the national professional association for physician assistants. It represents PAs across all medical settings and specialties in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, U.S. territories except for Puerto Rico, as well as the armed forces and federal services. Its core role is to provide support and advocacy to PAs to help them deliver high-quality, cost-effective healthcare to patients. As a stakeholder in the non-profit healthcare sector, AAPA engages in policy and profession-wide initiatives to support its members and advance the PA workforce. In 2025, it participated in a cross-organizational effort resulting in a white paper addressing the role of artificial intelligence in aging care.
