Since its inception in 1923, the Awards have provided a national platform and have counted many notable figures among past winners. Each year, the organization partners with more than 100 regional affiliates to bring the program to local communities, inviting teens in grades 7 through 12 to submit works across 28 categories of art and writing for scholarships and opportunities to have pieces exhibited or published. 

In 2022, the Alliance partnered with The Kenyon Review to offer a summer writing experience for educators participating in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
