Afognak Native Corporation is an Alaska Native village corporation formed in 1977 through the merger of Port Lions Native Corporation and Natives of Afognak, both established under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act. It is based in Kodiak, Alaska, with administrative offices in Anchorage and other locations, and conducts work internationally through its subsidiaries. The nine-member Board of Directors, all Alaska Native shareholders, oversees Afognak and the subsidiaries it has created, including Alutiiq, LLC, to develop capabilities in commercial and U.S. government contracting. Afognak’s core asset is its ownership of 248,000 acres of land in the Kodiak Archipelago, centered on Afognak Island, which supports cultural, subsistence, economic development, and recreational activities. The corporation serves more than 1,200 shareholders, many of whom live in Port Lions or elsewhere on Kodiak Island; in 2020 it expanded its footprint by acquiring the Brown Jug retail chain from Alcanna Inc.
