ASCI is a nonprofit organization established in 1994 that focuses on kinship care, offering a safe and nurturing environment for children placed with relatives or close family friends. It is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and is the largest provider of kinship support services in Allegheny County, with contracts extending to several neighboring counties and a large office in Philadelphia County operating in collaboration with the Department of Human Services. ASCI frames kinship care as a culturally competent practice rooted in African-American traditions, while applying this approach broadly to address placement disparities related to race and ethnicity.
