Z Space is a San Francisco, California-based performing arts organization that supports artistic risk, collaboration, and community through the development, production, and presentation of new work. Operating out of an old can factory in the Mission District, it runs two venues—a small 85-seat theater and a 236-seat flexible performance space—with a warehouse-inspired aesthetic and an adventurous edge. Rather than adhere to fixed seasons or a single artistic vision, Z Space pursues a diverse range of voices through programs and partnerships such as New Work, Word for Word, Youth Arts, the Curated Rental Program, and the Residency Program. Annually, it reaches about 22,000 audience members and involves around 800 youth and children through Youth Arts, while supporting roughly 50 small and mid-size arts organizations. In 2023, Vanessa Flores Chacko was named Associate Artistic Director of Word For Word, a development that reflects ongoing leadership within its resident company.
