Since 1912, YWCA Charleston has stood as a pillar of strength, safety, and support in the Kanawha Valley—helping women, children, and families reclaim stability, dignity, and purpose. Founded as a safe haven for young women from rural communities pursuing work in Charleston, our organization has grown into the region’s most comprehensive network of social service programs. Today, we serve over 10,000 individuals annually across Kanawha, Boone, and Clay counties through life-saving services including emergency shelter, permanent housing, job readiness, senior enrichment, and domestic violence intervention. Our impact is seen not just in numbers, but in the absence of devastation. Without YWCA Charleston, hundreds more families would remain trapped in cycles of violence and homelessness. More children would go without stable shelter. Seniors would face isolation instead of connection. Women seeking safety and independence would have nowhere to turn. Because we exist, lives are rebuilt, justice is pursued, and generational cycles are broken. YWCA Charleston continues to be where hope finds a home—and where dignity and equity are non-negotiable.
