WVRC Media is a media production company based in Morgantown, West Virginia, primarily focused on radio broadcasting and related media services, with its corporate headquarters at 260 Spruce Street. The company traces its origins to 1940 when Agnes and Herbert Greer launched WAJR-AM in Morgantown, with the call letters derived from Mrs. Greer's initials. In 1948 WAJR-FM began broadcasting as the first FM station in West Virginia and one of the early commercial FM stations in the United States, later changing its call letters to WVAQ in 1981. Ownership passed in 1972 to the Greer family's three grandsons, Richard, John and David Raese, and in 1985 WVRC Media launched the MetroNews Radio Network, a statewide network distributed via satellite that has more than 50 news affiliates and holds exclusive radio and TV rights to the West Virginia SSAC state championships in basketball, football and baseball. WVRC Media operates or controls a total of 30 radio stations across six locations, employs 51-200 people, and reports revenue in the range of $100 million to $250 million.
