WVKR 91.3 FM is a radio outlet with roots at Vassar College, where broadcasts date back to 1938. The station began as an AM current carrier delivering programming for up to twenty-one hours daily via campus-only closed circuit before transitioning to FM. Since 1994, it has operated at 3400 watts with a transmitter on the west side of the Hudson River, broadcasting on 91.3 MHz to a broader community that includes students and neighbors, under a mission to promote music not heard elsewhere and to serve the community through eclectic programming. The station’s reach extends beyond campus, audible in five states via broadcast and accessible worldwide via an online webcast at wvkr.org. Based in Poughkeepsie, New York, WVKR operates with staff drawn from both the college and the surrounding community, reflecting its community-oriented programming.
