The World Food Policy Center is a research, education, and convening unit within Duke University for the Sanford School of Public Policy. Its objective is to advance inclusive food system policy and practice to support equity and resilience in local and global food systems. Its program areas address economic development through food justice, the root causes and narratives of racial inequity in the food system, and governance aimed at equitable power and benefit. It also conducts local food system analysis and focuses on public health and nutrition, while seeking to shift aid from charity toward capacity building. Based in Durham, North Carolina, the center was launched in 2017 under the leadership of Dr. Kelly Brownell.
