WISE, a small nonprofit based in New York City, was founded in 2006 as a faith-based grassroots initiative and later became an independent organization operating as a partner project under the Fund for the City of New York. It focuses on promoting Muslim women as agents of change by ensuring their participation across political, economic, religious, and social spheres, with an emphasis on protecting women’s rights, promoting religious pluralism, and advancing peacebuilding through research and evidence-based reporting. The organization works to address gender inequality by elevating Muslim women’s perspectives in public policy debates and collaborating with diverse stakeholders to counter patriarchal abuses and various forms of violence against women, including child marriage, domestic violence, and other harmful practices. WISE is positioned within the nonprofit sector, partnering with advocates to develop localized, long-term solutions and to foster dialogue across faith and gender lines.
