The Whitsunday Regional Council is the local government authority based in Proserpine, Queensland, responsible for governing the Whitsunday region. Its strategic direction is set by the Mayor and Councillors, with a leadership team overseeing day-to-day management in consultation with the community. The region spans 23,862 square kilometres and includes the major towns of Airlie Beach, Bowen, Cannonvale and Collinsville, as well as Proserpine and numerous rural and coastal communities. The council serves a growing population in a region with a diversified economy anchored by agriculture, construction, mining and tourism, and it focuses on planning, services and infrastructure to support residents and businesses. In December 2025 it released a Request for Expressions of Interest for the Build Whitsundays Water and Sewer Network program.
