The Western Museum of Mining and Industry, founded in 1970, is a private nonprofit located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Its mission is to preserve and interpret the mining history of Colorado and the American West. The museum operates restored multi-ton steam engines and mining machines, illustrating the technology behind mining and metallurgy, and its collection includes more than 4,000 artifacts on a 27-acre indoor/outdoor site, featuring an operational stamp mill and a functioning blacksmith shop. The institution serves visitors with interests in Colorado history, mining technology, geology, and the environment, offering changing exhibits and various programs. It presents two rotating exhibits annually (February–May and September–December) and hosts events such as the Pike's Peak Gem & Mineral Show in June and a fall harvest festival in October, while relying on members, interns, and volunteers to support its mission.
