WMed is a private nonprofit medical school in Kalamazoo, Michigan, formed through a collaboration between Western Michigan University and the region's two teaching health systems, Beacon Health and Bronson Healthcare. The school offers a four-year Doctor of Medicine program and two Master of Science degree programs in Biomedical Sciences and Medical Engineering, and it trains physicians in 10 residencies and five fellowships accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. It is fully accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and the Higher Learning Commission. WMed is supported as a private nonprofit by private gifts, clinical revenues, tuition, and endowment income, including a $100 million foundational gift in 2011 and the Empowering Futures Gift of $300 million. The institution contributes to the economic vitality of Southwest Michigan, creating about 1,600 jobs and generating an estimated $353 million in annual economic impact in Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties.
