Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) is a mid-sized organization based in Boulder, Colorado, founded in 1953. As an interstate compact, it collaborates with states, territories, and postsecondary institutions to share knowledge, develop resources, and devise innovative responses to regional challenges in higher education, workforce development, and behavioral health. Its mission includes expanding access to high-quality, affordable postsecondary education and helping states maximize their technology investments across the Western region. Its primary customers are states, territories, and postsecondary institutions seeking policy guidance, cooperation, and resource sharing to address ongoing education and workforce needs. In August 2023, WICHE named Todd Haynie, then president of Eastern Arizona College, as its president.
