The Washington Apple Commission, officially the Washington State Apple Advertising Commission, is a state-created entity established by the Washington Legislature in 1937 to support the apple industry. Under statutory authority, it collects a mandatory assessment on fresh apple shipments, with no revenues derived from apples diverted to processed products. Based in Wenatchee, Washington, the commission operates as a government-mandated body funded by growers and overseen by the Director of Agriculture. It is governed by a 14-member board: nine members elected by apple growers in designated districts, four elected by shippers and marketers in designated districts, and the Director of Agriculture as a board member. Directors serve three-year terms. Domestic promotional activity is not currently conducted, while the organization maintains promotions in more than 25 countries overseas where Washington apples are sold.
