Virginia Public Utilities is a municipal utility that has served the city of Virginia, Minnesota since 1913. It delivers electricity and steam from a co-generating facility, operates a water treatment plant, and sells natural gas to local customers. In 2004, it formed the Laurentian Energy Authority with Hibbing Public Utilities Commission to coordinate energy resources.

It serves a broad local customer base across its electric, steam, water, and gas utilities, with more than 5,200 electric customers, over 1,800 steam customers, around 3,900 water customers, and roughly 1,600 gas customers. As part of the LEA, biomass-fired boilers and a wood-handling operation were added, delivering about 35 megawatt-hours of electricity for Xcel Energy. The utility is based in Virginia, in northern Minnesota on the Iron Range and operates within the broader Quad Cities region.
