Victoria University of Wellington is a public research university based in Wellington, New Zealand, offering higher education and conducting extensive scholarly work. Noted for the intensity of its high-quality research, it was ranked top in New Zealand in the 2018 Performance-Based Research Fund and is the only university to have topped the country’s main measure of research excellence twice. The university maintains collaborations with external partners across sectors, including the Health Quality & Safety Commission, which has offered data space internships since 2016. It also collaborates with the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand on Master’s and PhD programmes. In 2025, a partnership involving Sunergise New Zealand Limited, Revolve Energy, and EPC Energy, together with Victoria University of Wellington, supported the Living Pā Ngā Mokopuna Solar and Battery Energy Storage Project. In May 2026, Bryony James was announced as the university's next vice-chancellor, succeeding Nic Smith.
