The Vermont Youth Conservation Corps operates a youth-focused environmental service program modeled on a national Conservation Corps framework. Each year it employs and pays more than 250 young people aged 15 to 26 to perform hands-on farming and conservation work through small crews across Vermont. The program combines learning, service to the community, and paid work to build leadership, teamwork, and professional skills, with crews handling significant projects in a collaborative setting. Based in Richmond, Vermont, VYCC has a 40-year history and has engaged more than 7,000 young people in its programs. Alumni have moved into leadership roles in state government and nonprofits, contribute to environmental stewardship, and participate as engaged citizens. A recent development is a partnership with Building Heritage to restore a historic structure built in 1901, illustrating ongoing collaboration with community partners.
