UZ Gent is a major university hospital based in Ghent, in the Flemish region of Belgium, and stands among the largest and most specialized health care providers in Flanders. It integrates patient care with teaching and scientific research through close collaboration with Ghent University's Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, enabling a broad spectrum of primary and highly specialized services for patients nationally and internationally. The hospital operates more than 1,000 beds for acute care and handles about 75,000 admissions and 400,000 outpatient visits each year. It provides around-the-clock access to specialized care, supported by an emergency response team that can mobilize a physician and nurse for life-threatening situations. In 2025, Sweco AB partnered with UZ Gent to serve as master planner and designer for a future central hospital and to oversee its realization. As an academic health system, UZ Gent combines clinical services with teaching and research, reinforcing its role in training and advancing medical knowledge.
