USO Northwest operates as the Seattle-based regional arm of the United Service Organizations, providing support to military personnel and their families across Washington and Oregon. It functions as a private, congressionally chartered nonprofit and relies on donations and a broad volunteer network rather than government funding to carry out its work. Through the efforts of more than 400 volunteers, USO Northwest serves over 118,000 service members and their families each year.

The organization is not part of the federal government and operates under a congressional charter, focusing on assisting service members at every stage of their military life—from enlistment through assignments and deployments to reintegration into civilian communities. In the Northwest, its activities address overseas deployments, family support, wounded service members and their families, and families of the fallen, with programs supported by donors and volunteers. A notable 2025 development was a partnership with Google Beam to support military families.
