The University of Zadar is a higher education institution based in Zadar, in the Zadarska region of Croatia. It was established in 2002 by the Croatian Parliament, continuing a centuries-old academic tradition dating back to Studium generale in 1396. It stands as Croatia's largest fully integrated university, structured around 27 departments, five research centers, and two teaching centers. The university follows the Bologna Process, offering three-year bachelor's degrees, two-year master's programs, and three-year doctoral studies, with two five-year integrated programs as well; its programs span humanities, social sciences, and natural, technical, biomedical, and interdisciplinary fields. Its mission emphasizes providing a space for creativity and the transfer of knowledge and technologies, reflecting its integrated higher education structure and strategic aims for 2023–2028. In April 2026, the university hosted the BIOEAST conference on bioeconomy, highlighting its engagement in international collaboration and regional bioeconomy initiatives.
