The University of Neuchâtel (UniNE) is a Swiss higher-education institution located in Neuchâtel, roughly halfway between Geneva and Zürich. Founded in 1838 as the Academy of Neuchâtel and renamed in 1909, it comprises four faculties—Humanities, Science, Law, and Economics—and offers more than 40 disciplines. The university serves a sizable student body, welcoming over 4,000 students each year, including around 25% from abroad, and emphasizes close supervision within a city-centered campus that operates across several nearby sites to foster collaboration. In May 2026, UniNE participated in an international research collaboration that produced 3D-printed experimental devices to observe how bacteria disperse along fungal filaments, a phenomenon known as fungal highways. Based in Neuchâtel, the institution provides Euro-compatible Bachelor's and Master's degrees across its programs and maintains a sizable workforce to support teaching and research activities.
