The University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC) is a major teaching and research hospital in El Paso, in the Southwest region, that combines advanced medical technology with expert care. It is the region's Level I trauma center within a 270-mile radius and serves as the designated facility to receive the president if medical care is required while visiting the area. It was the first teaching hospital in Texas to upgrade to the da Vinci 5 robotic platform and it hosts the region's only Level I stroke center; it is a Joint Commission-certified comprehensive stroke center and is accredited as a chest pain center. It is also the region's first Level IV maternal care hospital and an officially certified Baby-Friendly hospital, with the Digestive Health Center serving as a regional GI referral hub. UMC collaborates with Texas Tech Health El Paso and its upcoming Fox Cancer Center to provide comprehensive cancer care for the region, aligning with its mission to heal, to serve, and to educate.
