UNITAS North America is a small international nonprofit based in New York, founded in 2015, focused on preventing human trafficking in the United States and Eastern Europe through education and awareness. It frames trafficking as a global crime that undermines health, safety, and basic needs, and pursues interventions before it begins by partnering with governments, NGOs, executives, and field experts. In its collaboration with the Serbian government, the organization has implemented a prevention education program in schools that has reached more than 53,000 teenagers and produced an educational film to help youth avoid exploitation. In the United States, UNITAS is developing a prevention curriculum for middle and high school students, complemented by a guidebook for parents and digital campaigns aimed at adults and youth. The organization has earned external recognition for its youth-focused prevention work, including a Webby Gold Anthem Award for its approach to delivering transformative education on trafficking prevention.
