Type Media Center, founded in 1966 as The Nation Institute, is a New York City-based media production organization that houses a range of journalism-focused programs and a community of hundreds of journalists, authors, and writing fellows. It oversees a suite of activities including Bold Type Books, its publishing imprint; Type Investigations, which supports investigative reporting; TomDispatch, the widely read online platform; as well as fellowships, prize programs, and events designed to connect practitioners with ideas and audiences. The center's work spans publishing, investigative journalism, and public-facing discussions across media formats. Its base in New York anchors a national network of contributors and projects. In November 2021, Type Media Center announced a collaboration with Hachette Book Group to advance its publishing initiatives. The organization operates as a multi-program hub within the media production landscape, linking journalists, authors, and fellows to produce reporting and commentary that reach audiences through books, online content, and events.
