The Truman Scholars Association is a small nonprofit based in Washington, DC, formed to bring together all recipients of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship. It exists to support, connect, and promote Truman Scholars and their public service work, building a lifelong community of leaders. Members are automatically admitted, and the organization operates as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3). Founded in 1997, the association operates within the civic and social organizations sector to facilitate communication and professional development among scholars and to advance public service in keeping with the Truman legacy. The Truman Scholar network dates back to 1977 and includes thousands of individuals, with a cited figure of 3,384 in recent reporting. In April 2021, the organization announced the addition of a new staff member.
