The Watermill Center, located in Water Mill, New York, was founded in 1992 by Robert Wilson as an interdisciplinary laboratory for the arts. It supports young and emerging artists through a year-round Artist Residency Program and an International Summer Program, along with Education Programs, exhibitions, and public events. The campus includes a 20,000+ square-foot building with a library and a significant collection of global art and artifacts, plus eight-and-a-half acres of grounds and sculpture gardens, and it serves as Wilson’s summer home. The center positions itself as a space where artists can work, learn, create, and grow, integrating performing arts with resources from the humanities, the sciences, and the visual arts to pursue work that is uncommon in the field. It maintains partnerships with a broad network of cultural institutions and has expanded programming beyond summer to include fall and spring offerings such as workshops, conferences, and educational collaborations; in March 2026 it named Charles Chemin as artistic director.
