The Valley Breeze is a free weekly newspaper publisher based in Lincoln, Rhode Island, serving northern Rhode Island with about 57,000 copies distributed weekly. The paper's first edition began in 1996 to cover Cumberland and Lincoln with a distribution of 17,500, and a second edition in 1999 expanded coverage to North Smithfield, Woonsocket, and Blackstone, Massachusetts with 17,000. In 2006, the company expanded through acquisitions of The Observer and The North Star; The Observer was converted to Valley Breeze & Observer with 11,000 copies, while The North Star became The North Providence Breeze with 7,500. A fifth edition serving Pawtucket debuted in 2009 with a distribution of 9,400. The Valley Breeze states that its papers reach more homes than competing publications in its market, and auditors award it the Gold Standard; the audits show 88% penetration in the primary market and 75% in the secondary market. In 2020, Dan Yorke joined as Publisher and founder Tom Ward retired after 24 years with the publication.
