The Servant Center is a Greensboro-based nonprofit in the Individual and Family Services sector that has operated for more than 20 years, addressing homelessness, hunger, and disability. Its mission centers on empowering homeless and disabled people, with a particular focus on veterans, through housing, healthcare, and restorative services in the community. Its flagship program, Servant House, runs in a 21-bed facility converted from a former detox center and provides transitional housing for homeless and disabled veterans, with up to two years for residents to learn life skills, receive managed medical care, and work toward recovery goals with a case manager. The organization also maintains two permanent supportive housing buildings, Glenwood and Haworth House, where residents live independently while retaining access to ongoing case management. Additional services include a Disability Assistance Program to help eligible individuals apply for Social Security disability benefits and a pantry serving more than 500 individuals monthly; the Servant Center also leads the Americorps Partnership to End Homelessness, coordinating thousands of volunteer hours across partner organizations.
