The Royal College of Psychiatrists, based in London, is the professional and educational body for psychiatrists in the United Kingdom. It seeks to advance understanding of psychiatry and mental health, including how mental and physical health interact and how social and cultural contexts shape care. It leads in setting and achieving high standards through education, training, and research, and it promotes best practice in mental health services while publishing results in world-class psychiatric journals. Nationally and internationally, the College represents the expertise of the psychiatric profession to governments and other agencies, promotes psychiatry as a career, and seeks to improve mental health care across sectors. It runs the MRCPsych membership examination, organises scientific and clinical conferences and continuing professional development, and publishes books and educational materials for professionals as well as the general public. In 2026, Professor Subodh Dave was elected as the College’s President, reflecting ongoing leadership in governance and professional development.
