Founded in 1962 and later expanded through a 2014 merger with the Upstate History Alliance, MANY is based in Troy and focuses on strengthening the sector through advocacy, training, and networking to uplift industry best practices and organizational capacity. The organization serves a broad professional community, including museum studies faculty and students, libraries and archives, and museum partners. MANY reports a statewide reach that encompasses more than 1,400 museums and more than 700 member institutions within its network. It organizes events and forums, including an annual conference; the 2025 edition was scheduled for Ithaca with the theme Cultivating Community: Looking In, Reaching Out, recognizing achievements among participants.
